Andean Rebel Three Days in a Life Gregory Arthur Solsrud Books

This was a very interesting read. The author's daughter is a friend of my daughter. I kept hearing them talk about her dad having published a novel so the curiosity lead me to buy the book. First disclaimer. I wasn't given a freebie to generate a good review. Second disclaimer. The author didn't buy me any beer (so far) nor has he volunteered to get me blue recycling bags (he should). So, as I said, I bought the book and took a leap of faith. I have a trail of books to read that stretches from my Kindle to the frontier with Mexico, so there are books that have priority. I gave this book the utmost priority, even above Hamilton (damn you, Aaron Burr!). The book was a great treat. I enjoyed the style tremendously. Any time I read a book with a Latin-American narrative, my mind and attitude immediately transport me to the magic realism of the 60's generation and authors like Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Isabel Allende (forget Mario Vargas Llosa, let him continue suffering after getting smacked many years ago by Garcia Marquez during a chance encounter at a crowded and smelly international airport that'll remain nameless). So, put my biased expectations aside as to be fair in my judgement. I really didn't have to. The book held strong on its own. The potential readers should not get confused. The style is not that of magic realism, it is real but with a great capacity to have the readers be surrounded by an evolving imaginary. I really enjoyed the author's very personal perception of the tropical jungle and its people. It is a place of incredible beauty but it also has the duality of cruelty and the survival of the fittest. This duality also extend to its people. What amazed me of the author's writing style is that he could present us with moments of harsh reality that could have been presented with a mediocre hyperrealistic style but he soared above that in a way that I have infrequently seen for somebody publishing his first novel. It was very refreshing. I can not wait for him to publish his second novel. There will be nothing sophomoric about it.

PD: Fellow reviewers, do not give the author any grieve for creating a manual safety for the Glock 17, when there is none. Just imagine it been there and consider it a small liberty taken for the sake of the narrative.

Andean Rebel Three Days in a Life Gregory Arthur Solsrud Books Reviews

Fast paced, well-written, and romantic -- a great book and a fun read.
Three Days in A Life. Leads the reader to conceptualize the history, struggle and agony of these types of conflicts. The characters and situations have depths that compel the reader to wonder about the difference between the fiction and reality of the book. Start it and you’ll be reluctant to put it down.
I loved Sofia. Gutty and real. I love discovering new writers. Very tight prose - well edited. I highly recommend this book. The characters are still with me, that does not happen to me much. My husband met the writer at a conference. This review is my own and is not paid. I hope he has another book in him. I will read Andean Rebel again; it was very emotionally intense.
Enjoyed this book. Interesting reading about a time and place I'd never imagined. I hope Greg continues to write on this topic and more.
Thoroughly enjoyed Andean Rebel. It is a fun action adventure with a nice romance mixed in. The story is great but it is the dialog that really made this story work. The dialog revealed the complex characters and gave a unique insight into the Colombian culture and history. Highly recommend this for a enjoyable read.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a guerrilla - fighting for a cause, maybe even a lost cause? This book takes you into the
heart of a rebel camp where you experience the victories, disappointments, cruelty, and infighting of desperate men trying to hold on to a vision
worthy of their lives. This story resonates with authenticity.
I was immediately transported to the jungles of Columbia in this fast paced novel. Andean Rebel is an intricate, high action love story that gripped me from the first page, until the last. A young American pilot, while fighting along side with the rebels against a corrupt Columbian government, falls in love with Sophia, who passionately supports the rebels after the government kills her father.
The characters of Anthony and Sophia have stayed with me for weeks because of the intensity of their relationship and the realistic struggle endured against a relentless enemy.
