A historical erotica romance novel, "Sins of the Highlander" follows noble-born Aileen Munro and peasant-born Niall MacRae who rose in class standing by becoming a warrior. Due to their social classes, they were never meant to be together, but when Aileen became a widow, Niall who had loved her since he started training as a warrior and first laid eyes on her found himself wondering if ever the two of them has a future.Full of tension with thoughts of unrequited love and lust kept the emotions high on the first part of the book. And when Aileen and Niall finally gave in to their attraction to each other, they then had to face the difference in their social classes.
A well-written novel which adhered to historical facts as much as possible. Aileen's experience as a wife approximates the situation many women faced in era that this story is set. The arranged marriages and the political alliances achieved through it did not take into consideration the situation that women found themselves in when they wed.
Character development was nicely achieved that the author even found to humanize the villain. The book would have been perfect except for the use of two very modern words that was just jarring. Other than that, this book is a true 5-star rating.

I wish I could give this a higher rating but I just couldn't. I understand that Ms. Haymore wrote an "erotic romance," but I just could not justify or understand the hero or the heroine. Both were constantly thinking about or talking about the importance of their "honor." Niall's oath to his liege lord precludes his involvement with Aileen on any level. Aileen is well aware that her brother will pledge her another man. Yes they have loved each other since they were children. I get that there was passion between them but to practically attack each other every time they were within ten feet made any respect for them into disappointment and finally anger. Eroticism does not have to involve heavy and frequently near violent sex. I might not have been so disappointed, but every time they had sex, it was preceded and followed by personal recriminations about failing their lord. And it was soon obvious that that behavior would continue. I started skipping the "love" scenes mainly because they didn't feel like love scenes, more like sex added so "erotica" could be added to the description.
Aileen was given in marriage to an older, hurtful man. She existed 10 years in that relationship when her husband died. Now it is time for her brother to arrange a new marriage. This one promises to be worse than the first. Meantime Niall, the man her brother. Sends to bring her to his castle is a former friend whose feelings for her are stronger than friendship. Will her brother ok his marriage request for her or will he be rejected because he is neither titled/ landed. If he does betrothe her to another wicked man, will she be stuck or is there a way out? Good but not compelling.
My goodness I need a tall cool drink after this. If you are looking for a sweet highland romamce, this is NOT the book for you. Now if you want something to make you hot and bothered on a cold night you have hit the jackpot !!!!! The book is a well written quick read that is full of drama, action and of coarse love that accompanies the steamy sex scenes ( fanning myself) that will have you curling your toes without being raunchy ( in my opinion). A definate keeper ! !!!
Interesting story with lots of heat between the two leads. These two have spent most of their adult lives with secret feelings for one another but unable to do anything about it. Aileen was trapped in a horrible marriage while Niall had to witness and endure the torture of watching her abuse and ill treatment. When he comes back after her husband dies and must escort her to her brother's castle things begin to develop. However they do not immediately get their happy ever after. There are lots of obstacles in their way including another laird that wants her hand in marriage who will prove to put her first husband to shame in the abuse department. Great story and I highly recommend picking it up for some interesting reading.

Aileen is recently widowed after the death of her abusive husband. When Niall returns home, the two get their first looks at each other as adults, and it's safe to say they both like what they see. Aileen helps Niall to prepare a bath, and the chemistry between the two leads to one of the sexiest non-sex scenes I've read in a long time.
Aileen will soon be betrothed to another man, and Niall is considered "beneath her." The sexual tension continues to build the two until they can no longer resist...
Some of the obstacles put in their paths seem insurmountable, but the author handles them with a deft, satisfying touch.
Pick up this novella for a short, sweet, and very sexy read.
